October photo catch up

I've been so very busy this month & last that I haven't had time to update this blog. I've photographed two weddings (one as a second shooter) five gigs (two awaiting editing still) seen the stunning 'Glamour Of The Gods' at the NPG, been to two private views, three book launches, a charnel house tour, and had five days in Berlin. Last night I photographed my first play (final dress rehearsals for 'Piaf!' at The Rose & Crown in Walthamstow) & I have seen some quite amazing gigs. I also had to spend a week doing installs & upgrades on my iMac, it really has been non stop, so here's a quick photo catch up from three amazing gigs last month...

Manchester Orchestra at Koko 7th October 2011
The Atlanta rockers were touring their 2011 release 'Simple Math' a sure fire contender for album of the year in my book! Koko was full of swooning fans singing along to every word and Andy Hall and his crew really delivered the goods.

Iron & Wine at Shepherds Bush Empire 10th October 2011
I love photographing at Shepherds Bush Empire, not least because they have the best secuity staff I've ever worked with. Polite, efficient, and crucially, always great to chat too while waiting back stage. The thing about the Empire is, you get escorted in and out of the pit and so don't get to stay for the whole show, so there's a lot of waiting around. Tonight was no exception, but both my fellow photographers and the security guys were most excellent company. Not seeing the show might be a bit of a drawback, but on the other hand, you do get to say hi to the bands. The very lovely Sam Beam was most helpful when I got lost on my way back from the ladies and was almost frozen in fear of accidentally walking out through the wrong door and on to the stage instead of back to the security desk.

The full set of photos is on Ragged Words and Michael James Halls review of their acoustic show at the Hackney Empire the night before can be found here.

Herman Dune at Union Chapel 12th October 2011
I was unfamiliar with Herman Dune before this show, but they came on a recommendation from a trusted source, so I thought that made them worth the trip to N1 to see what all the fuss was about. I was so impressed with this show, I also ended up reviewing it! Read all about it here.
